about the artist and the prints
Marta Romer was born in Budapest, grew up in Montréal, and studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Geneva, before finding her way to Sydney, where she lives and pursues her art practice.
She holds two Masters degrees in fine art printmaking and for many years taught design and visual arts at the University of New South Wales and at the University of Technology, Sydney. She exhibits widely, and is a member of Sydney Printmakers, the Southern Printmakers Association, the Print Council of Australia, Inkmasters (Cairns) and Atelier Circulaire (Montreal, Canada).
Marta started as a printmaker in the traditional discipline of etching and was an early researcher in the use of photopolymer plates for non-toxic intaglio and relief printmaking (please see the FAQ page for printmaking terms). Her work takes a hybrid approach, often returning to a subject or theme to explore it through a different medium, and also embraces digital processes, the archival inkjet prints merging photography, collage, drawing and painting.
The website features a selected gallery of work, grouped thematically to provide context and maintain connections across the prints.
